Pre Selection Review for Accreditation
It is a formidable task to prepare and submit a PPOC Accreditation for the first time. To help out, your friends at PPOC-BC have set up a pre selection review for Accreditation as a resource for all members. In the past, accreditation was the way to show your clients that you had an expertise in a specific field or genre of photography. It still is!
But now it is also the vehicle for new Observer Members to become fully entitled Accredited Members of PPOC-BC. It also means your PPOC-BC peers believe you are producing imagery that is above average for professional photography today. If you check out the accreditation guidelines you can see there is something for everyone to specialize in. The Pre Selection Review is a way for everyone to have a free critique. This is years of experience in the pool of 40 nationally accredited judges living in BC, right from your own computer.
Normal Accreditation Submissions from accross Canada have about a 50% success rate on first submission. BC members that have completed the review boast a 100% success rate. Don’t run full speed at the accreditation wall and hope to sail over! Let your friends help, a gift from your peers at PPOC-BC.
You choose the accreditation subject and select 15 images to be reviewed. The Judges will review on a 5 point scale the likelihood of each image being selected and some will make comments or suggestions at times. You will then receive a report with the rating and comments. A judge will give you a half hour review on the phone about the results to guide you to the next step.
The review will be on each individual image only. It will be your responsibility to ensure the correct variety of images are represented according to the accreditation guidelines.
This review will not replace the actual accreditation judging, but it will help you select and prepare each image by arranging access to qualified judges, all of whom could be on the actual judging panel. Like the actual judging, all reviews are anonymous.
Images are to be prepared as required for the accreditation. Once your image is complete, make a copy and re-size the copy to 800 pixels on the longest dimension. We suggest using Photoshop’s Fit Image (file, automate, fit image) set to 800×800 for this. Retain your original high res files for future use to actually prepare your submission for accreditation.
Each review file is given a number rather than a name , starting at 01…. 01.jpg …02.jpg, etc. We suggest using Photoshop’s batch rename is great for this.
Reviews are restricted to a maximum of 15 images – Please allow 2 weeks to receive results. Do NOT make the mistake of leaving this to the last couple of weeks prior to the accreditation deadlines as a lot of entries come in at the last minute and there sometimes is not enough time to process them all. Remember that this service is done by volunteers who have their own businesses to run and sometimes do not have time to do these reviews, so please try and send it in LONG before it is due.
Put all images into a zip file with the your last name and the accreditation subject as the file name
(for example: johnson_animal.zip) and send an email to review@ppoc-bc.ca. Zip files must be under 10MB.
Wait for the results. You will receive a survey link to follow the results as they come in. When the review is over you will be forwarded a copy of the results and a contact to arrange for the phone consultation. omit this line: Hopefully this information is helpful. Any PPABC or PPOC-BC Member may submit for a review and Only PPOC (PPOC-BC) members can submit for PPOC Accreditation. Please allow 2 weeks to receive results.
